Kayla has a secret. In her world, differences are to be feared. When all she holds dear is tragically ripped away from her, she finds herself in the last place she ever wanted to be.
Within the village, Kayla holds back, too guarded and scared to trust, but before long, it becomes clear everything she had been taught was wrong.
Now Kayla must navigate her world through this new lens and unlearn everything she thought she knew. Having been led all her young life to fear what makes her special, accepting her true self may be the greatest challenge of all. It has been almost a full year since Kayla became part of the shifter village. After the misadventure she found herself on last summer, she hopes never leave the safety of the village again. Unfortunately, life has a way of throwing curveballs when we least expect them.
After a full winter and spring spent in the cave system that became the village's new home, Maggie is ready to get out! She longs for the feeling of air under her wings as she soars through the sky. Instead, she is stuck sharing a sleeping cave with her mother and sister.
When danger finds the village, they are forced to move out of the caves. Their only hope is to cross the mountains to the south, and find the shifters that have gone before them. Pushed to their limits, Kayla and Maggie face the most difficult journey of their lives as they search for home and hope.
